❓ Schools FAQ

Your questions,
answered in plain English

Everything Year 6 teachers, IT leads and senior leaders typically ask before rolling SATs Goals! out across a class or year group.

Getting started

How long does it take to set up for a class?

About 30 minutes of staff time spread across a week. The full week-one plan is on the onboarding page.

Do I need to install anything?

No. SATs Goals! is a web app — open https://satstars.uk in any modern browser on any device. No app-store install, no plugins.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Your first 5 pupils are free forever, with full feature access — no card, no end date. Larger class sizes need a paid plan.

Can I get a longer trial for a full class?

Yes — contact us and we'll send a 30-day activation code that unlocks the tier of your choice for a whole class.

How do I switch my account from a family account to a school account?

From the dashboard, open Settings and choose Convert to School. Enter your school name and your existing children become pupils.

Pupils & accounts

Do pupils need their own login?

No. Pupils select their first name from the home screen on a shared device. There are no pupil emails and no pupil passwords.

What if two pupils share a first name?

Add an initial when you create the profile (e.g. Alex H, Alex T). You can rename a pupil at any time without losing their progress.

Can I organise pupils into classes?

Yes. Tag each pupil with a class name (6A, 6B, etc.). All reports and leaderboards can be filtered by class.

Can I bulk-add a whole class?

Yes. Paste a list — one pupil per line, with an optional class name after a comma — and all profiles are created in seconds.

What happens to a pupil's data when they leave?

You can remove the pupil from the Pupils tab. Their record is anonymised on deletion and no personal data is retained.

Can pupils carry on at home?

Yes. They can continue from any device with a browser. Either share the school login (PIN-protected on the dashboard side) or use a parent account at home.

Teachers & access

Can multiple teachers share a school account?

Yes. There's one login per school — use a shared staff inbox like [email protected] so any teacher can sign in.

What is the Teacher PIN for?

It locks the Teacher Dashboard on shared classroom devices so pupils can't see settings, reports or leaderboards meant for staff.

What happens if we forget the Teacher PIN?

Sign in with the staff email and password and reset the PIN from Settings. The PIN never blocks email-and-password access.

Can a TA or supply teacher use it?

Yes. Anyone with the staff email and password (or who knows the Teacher PIN on a signed-in device) can run sessions and view reports.

Curriculum & content

Does it cover the full KS2 SATs curriculum?

Yes — maths, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, spelling and reading comprehension. The full topic list is on the Schools page.

Are questions repeated?

Questions are generated fresh each session. Pupils never see the same quiz twice, so practice doesn't become memorisation.

Are wrong answers reinforced?

Yes. Every wrong answer is stored against the pupil and re-served in future sessions until they get it right.

Can I focus a session on a single topic?

Yes. Pupils can pick any topic — fractions, fronted adverbials, place value — for a focused 10- or 20-question quiz.

Are there timed activities for starters?

Yes. The Speed Round is a timed challenge across any topic — perfect as a 2- or 5-minute lesson starter.

Devices & IT

Which devices does it work on?

Anything with a modern browser — Windows PCs, Macs, ChromeOS, iPads, Android tablets and interactive whiteboards.

Does our web filter need any changes?

Whitelist https://satstars.uk. There are no other domains to allow, no ads, no third-party trackers loaded for pupils.

Does it work offline?

An internet connection is required to sync progress. The pages themselves are lightweight and run well on slow school networks.

Is there an app for the App Store or Play Store?

The web app covers all classroom needs. A native MAUI app exists for parents but isn't required for school use.

Privacy, data & GDPR

What pupil data do you collect?

Only a first name and a class label. No email, no surname, no date of birth, no contact details — nothing that identifies the child outside your classroom.

Where is data hosted?

On UK / EU infrastructure. Read the full Privacy Policy for the technical detail and our data-processor list.

Do you share data with third parties?

No. Pupil data is never sold or shared. Anonymous analytics help us improve the product but don't identify individual children.

Can we get a DPA (data processing agreement)?

Yes — contact us and we'll send the standard DPA for your DPO to review and sign.

How do we delete a pupil's data?

Remove them from the Pupils tab — their record is anonymised on deletion. We honour any further deletion request from a school within 30 days.

Pricing & billing

How does pricing work?

Tiered by class size, monthly or yearly (yearly saves ~17%). The pricing table shows current tiers.

Can we pay by invoice / purchase order?

Yes. Contact us with your school details and PO number and we'll raise an invoice for BACS payment.

Do you offer MAT or whole-trust pricing?

Yes — bespoke pricing is available for multi-academy trusts and federations. Contact us with a rough pupil count.

What happens at renewal?

Yearly subscribers get a reminder email before expiry. Cancel any time from the Stripe portal in your dashboard.

What if pupil numbers grow mid-year?

Upgrade to the next tier from the dashboard at any time. The new tier prorates against your current subscription.
